CCJ Court Hearing

The court process for a CCJ is simple and is held in private. You are not requested to attend the hearing unless you are disputing the CCJ claim, as the court will have the evidence from your Admission Form.

If the ruling goes against you and the Court decides that you owe the creditor money, you will be issued with a CCJ. The order will state how much debt you need to repay as well as how, such as monthly payments.

If you have CCJs from multiple creditors, then the Court can combine these debts into an Administration Order which allows you to make a single payment every month which is to be divided between all your creditors.

I Can't Afford to Pay the CCJ

The Court will set the repayment value based on the information that you provided about your income and outgoings costs, meaning that the CCJ should really be affordable to you.

If you have a genuine reason which means you cannot afford to pay the CCJ, then you could ask the Court to change the monthly payment amount or suspend the order until you can afford to repay the debt.

However, if you don’t pay anything or miss payments, the creditor can go back to the Court to enforce the judgment. This will incur more costs for you and may mean that bailiffs come to your home.
