Carer's Allowance
Carer's Allowance is a State Benefit for people providing at least 35 hours per week substantial care for someone receiving Attendance Allowance (AA) or the middle or highest band of Disability Living Allowance.
Also, carers looking after those receiving constant attendance allowances due to industrial or military disablement may be eligible. Recipients can by a relative for example; parent, partner or child of the cared for person, or just a friend.
Carer's Allowance is not means tested, but taken into account as income for other means tested benefits.
The weekly rate is £58.45 reducable by the amount received from certain other benefits, including state pension. People receiving certain other benefits at £58.45 or more a week are not entitled to Carer's Allowance.
Claimants may be able to get an additional amount for their husband, wife, civil partner or someone living with them who helps in looking after the claimant's dependent children.
